Mac tax

Ben, What is the Mac tax? Is it federal or state?

Thank you for that interesting question. The Mac tax is a tax that is imposed neither by the federal nor the state government. It is imposed by Apple corporation. The Mac tax in fact refers to premium apple charge for computers which are built with the same components that pretty much all other computers are built with (i.e. Intel chips and so forth) but have an apple sticker on them. It is in the spirit of tax minimisation therefore that I am proud to announce that I have built myself a dual boot hackintosh. A hackintosh is a computer made out of PC components with the mac operating system installed – in this case Snow Leopard. My computer also runs Windows 7 if required. It is important to be able to run windows because Macs tend to have the disadvantage of not being able to run many applications which are actually useful to most people.  However many clients who are film and video makers, writers, designers and artists use Macs because the applications they run are (or in some cases were) superior in these fields.
